what i learnt in todays’ session

The  topic of todays’ session was to use skills previously taught during course covering CV formatting exercises, to modify a template CV by including structure styles, colours, different fonts and sizes.  Also heading formatting some listed below:

Title heading;  Headings no.1,2,3,4,5; sub-headings;  Colour, font sizes, spacing ,bullet points etc.

This will help to promote a modern looking  CV profile with the ability to get short listed to an prospective employer.

What I learnt today yet I did relapse back to manual formatting

The task today was a formatting exercise.

We were to make a template from our design document from last week. Understanding the theme and the style were sometimes quite confusing but became clearer

I was given a document a CV without any formatting and I had to put in my own theme and formatting. I decided on heading styles and paragraph styles. We learnt how to change the colour in the document to black and white.

I found this exercise very useful in that changing just 1 heading actually changed all the headings in the document. I changed the title size, then Rick realised that I had reverted to my long standing bad habit of manual formatting.

What I learned today

Continuation of document design including saving the document with a new name. after re-formatting saved  as a document template. Downloaded document from email and added structure and style to an unformatted CV. Modified the document paragraph spacing format and colours. My format is now saved in ‘Themes’.

What I did today 25/1/2017

More practice in creating themes and saving them.

From a recent document I created a Template. I did this by selecting each element in turn and replacing the text within it with its theme designation; Title, Heading 2;4;4 etc. along with Emphasis and Bullet list. This Template 1 was saved both as a Theme and in document form on the flash-drive.

-I was given an un-formatted dummy CV as an email attachment which I downloaded to the flash-drive, from there, using Word 10, I formatted it;creating a title, headings, emphasis and bullet-lists. Once this was done, then redone, the class was given a run-through of the wider possibilities by the tutor.

todays learning and what i did

In today lesson we discussed the basic digital skills framework i.e.

Managing information, Communicating, Transacting and Problem-solving as part of  creating basic digital content.

Also the use of gaining employability skills and producing  modern word processed documents including CV’s suitable for todays modern working market.

Today subject was continuation of formatting excersise with document themes, using headings, titles, bullet points, style changes , fonts and colours to make good impression with documents for prospective employers.

What I learnt today 18th Jan 2017

I learnt how to distinguish the difference between ‘styles’ and ‘themes’. This new understanding enabled me to feel more confident in attempting to produce a document.

I gradually became familiar with the various menus in the toolbar, and how to apply them to get the desired effects to style  and structure my document. This increased my word processing confidence.

Word processing can usually change from office to office e.g wordpad, microsoft word etc., so the important point to remember is that the  structured design is more important than the word processing  of the document itself.

My confidence is well and truly improved.  I am feeling more confident to attempt designing of a document in a workplace situation, and hope to build further on what Iearnt today.

It seem so simple when you know how, yet  so baffling on my first attempt.

What I learned today

Retrieving documents, re-structuring document. Edit the style of whole document, Keyboard  shortcut – Ctrl S/O/N. The font for people with impaired vision is at least 14points.  From menu-Layout-columns-list to arrange a list on the page.  Page layout-Themes -Save current theme and naming my own theme.  Saving document in PDF format.

Learned about a new document

Today has been wonderful to learn new things about Themes,saving a documents into PDF file,Emphasis. I was able to make use of Title and changing the Headline to my own styles.The Employability had given more exprience to those who wants to learn as a beginner and security to handle computer with confidence to be able to design my C.V.

I will keep practising the format and colours and able to make my documents readable for everybody.

What I learned today – 18/1/17

From the given un-formatted document I created a new ‘theme’ title, headings and body-text.

This new them I then saved within the Word-10 system;naming it Tom1

Then, calling-up a new document, I chose ‘Tom1’ as my theme and created an entirely new document.

This I then saved under ‘Session 3’ on the course Flash-Drive in ‘pdf’ format.

It was, again, rather a bother that the programs on the laptops we use were set-up differently from the one on which the course was originated – even though our Tutor Rick went to great lengths to use Word 2010, as this is the software in the IT suit Age UK hires for this purpose.

What I learnt today Wednesday 11th January 2017

Today I learnt about formatting styles. Changing the style and its effects on the documents. We were to change these styles automatically and not manually, as we had been changing documents in the past manually without knowing that this was an incorrect way of formatting changes.

We were told that prospective employers would look at your work very unfavourable if manual formatting was used.

This style and formatting was evident in our CVs and I now need to change my CV to make it more Interview / Reader Friendly.

What we must remember is the design of the document is most important followed by word processing the document.

In documents certain formatting styles are only to be used in the Title main Headings and sub headings.

Such examples are:-

  • Shadow
  • Emboss,
  • Superscript
  • bold,
  • underline
  • font faces etc. etc.

Never complicate a document with too many different colours, numerous font sizes, font styles,  italics, strike through etc.  Aim for a very polished and professional looking document.

We were then tasked with changing the document style to make it easier for a visually impaired person to be able to read the document quite easily.

Very interesting and it made me aware of all the bad habits  that I had been using in my documents  that I had picked up in the past
